US Law Enforcement Disclose Apprehension in Disrupted New Year's Bomb Scheme Close to LA

US authorities announced on Monday that they had successfully thwarted a comprehensive plan to explode bombs at numerous locations run by two corporate businesses on New Year's Eve in Southern California. The operation resulted from the detainment of individuals associated with an militant faction promoting anti-capitalist and anti-authority views.

Individuals Apprehended During Remote Dry Run

A quartet of suspects were taken into custody last Friday in the desert region located east of Los Angeles as they were allegedly practicing their planned operation. Federal attorneys showed aerial surveillance video to reporters, which captured the group transporting a big black object to a table. Officials emphasized that the detainments occurred prior to the suspects could assemble a fully functional explosive device.

Names of the Suspects Disclosed

Based on the submitted court documents, the four people identified are Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30; Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, who is 41. All four are reportedly from the Los Angeles area.

Reported Driving Force and Ties

Although officials did not clearly outline a motive, they stated the suspects are members of a splinter group known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This organization allegedly urges "the working class to rise up and resist against corporate power," as per the court papers.

Each suspect is charged with include conspiracy and possession of a bomb. The government indicated that more charges are anticipated in the weeks ahead.

Elements of the Supposed "Operation Midnight Sun"

Authorities said that one of the individuals had devised a detailed plan last month to target five or more corporate facilities across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The locations were likened to "like Amazon" logistical hubs.

"The bomb plot was detailed," a prosecutor stated. "It included step-by-step instructions to build IEDs … and listed numerous objectives across Orange County and Los Angeles."

As per the investigation and the complaint, the plan involved positioning bags packed with intricate IEDs that were scheduled to be detonated all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at five places. New Year's Eve was seen as an opportune time because the scheme noted "celebratory explosions will be going off at this time so blast noises will be more difficult to be noticed."

The eight-page handwritten plan, titled "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," suggested that further locations could be added. The locations were identified as premises and facilities run by two different corporations tied to activities involving interstate and foreign commerce.

Future Schemes and Materials Seized

Court documents also revealed that two people in the collective had talked about later attacks aimed at immigration enforcement officers and vehicles with IEDs in 2026. One individual according to the complaint said that such attacks "would take some of them out and frighten the rest of them."

Such discussions were allegedly planned both at an physical meeting in Los Angeles and through an encrypted messaging app.

Images featured in the legal filings reveal a desert campsite with what authorities described as explosives-manufacturing components strewn across makeshift work surfaces.

Official documents details that the individuals "carried IED parts to the location, including various sizes of tubes, identified as potassium nitrate, charcoal, charcoal powder, sulfur powder, and components to be used as fuses, along with other items."

The scheme also had directions on how to manufacture the explosives and how to prevent leaving forensic clues that could be linked back to the faction. The accused had in the recent past obtained components and other items, via purchases from online retailers.

Arrest and Aftermath

Federal agents intervened last week when the individuals were rehearsing the strike in the remote area near a California town. "They possessed everything they were necessary to construct an functional IED at that place," an official said.

As part of executed raids, investigators allegedly located posters for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one individual's residence that called for "Down with America", and "ICE Must Go". At another accused's home, police discovered a duplicate of the elaborate explosives scheme.

The suspects were taken into custody peacefully. They were scheduled to make a court appearance in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
