Ten individuals found guilty of cyber-bullying against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to making hurtful comments about the pair's 24-year age gap.

The court delivered suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.

Their lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored all credible evidence that refuted her assertions opting to give a platform to established defamers.

Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she was a teacher at his secondary school.

The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
