The Manager's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had such discussions," the English capital native former Irish young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is currently.

"I possess a special job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "It's unlikely all people has to publicly and declare what they were, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

The coach agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the current global tournament qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as Group J second place.

Given his current stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the earliest.
