Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
