Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
